Welding at Formula Student – the SLV-Workshop - 18th and 19th of May

Category: Academy

The Education and Research Academy for Welding Technology Mannheim Ltd. (SLV) has been responsible for supporting the Formula Student Teams in welding issues since the first Formula Student Germany event at the Hockenheimring in 2006. The teams’ qualifications concerning welding technology have noticeably improved every year, yet some aspects still cause difficulties. This is why the SLV is offering a two-day workshop on welding in Mannheim.

Welding course with examination and certification according to DIN EN 287

For the practical side, a two-day TIG-welding course will be offered, conceived especially for the requirements of FSG-Teams. On the 18th and 19th of May 2012 from 8am until 4pm 32 work benches are available to the participants on which they can improve their knowledge on the welding of tubing and sheet metal. After the course has been completed there will be the possibility to take the welding examination according to DIN EN 287 in order to receive a certificate of qualification for the team.

The number of participants is limited to 32, with the restriction of one participant per team, as to offer as many teams as possible the opportunity to take part in the workshop. Registration will open on the 25th of April at 12:00 CEST. Should any places remain vacant these will be offered to all teams on a first-come-first-served basis from the 2nd of May at 12:00 CEST.

The fee for each participant is 20 Euros and is to be paid to FSG e.V. via Pay-Pal. SLV will bear any further expenses including catering.

Notes regarding the programme

All participants gather at SLV Mannheim, Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße 19, 68169 Mannheim, on Friday between 7.45 and 8am. Please go up the stairs toward the 'Lehrgangsbüro'. Teams should bring their own work clothing and protective gear, like gloves, welding mask, and safety goggles. Regarding safety gear, it might be possible to provide for some of the participants, but there will definitely be not enough for all!

At noon there will be a lunch break to which all participants are invited.
The event will be held in German. Any questions concerning content and procedures of the workshop should be addressed to Mr Bauer: bauer(at)slv-mannheim.de.
