FSG Award “Best Systems Engineering” powered by Schaeffler

Category: Competition, 2016, FSC Award, FSE Award
By: Schaeffler

A Formula Student car – independent of being a combustion or an electric one - is a complex system interacting with the driver and its subsystems also interacting with each other. Handling this complexity is one of the main tasks when developing a race car. It is getting even more important with aerodynamics and active control systems finding their ways into more and more Formula Student cars. This leads to even more desired and also undesired interactions and dependencies having to be taken into account.

Schaeffler is not only a well known supplier of mechanical components, like bearings, valve lifters and clutches but also of complex mechatronical systems like electromechanical anti-roll stabilizers, cam phasers and actuators for double clutch transmissions. To handle this complexity it is necessary to apply a systems engineering approach in order to complete the development successfully within the given boundaries of time, cost and quality.

To promote and honor the teams’ systems engineering skills, Schaeffler will reward the best approach based on the following award criteria.

Processes Methods, Tools:

•    Development processes
•    Development methods
•    Development tools

Project management:

•    Project organization
•    Project planning (time)
•    Project planning (cost)
•    Project realization (time & cost planned vs. time and cost needed)

System development:

•    System requirements
•    System architecture & design
•    System integration
•    System verification & validation

Please upload your application as PDF-File in DIN A4 format with a maximum of 6 pages text and 3 pages pictures to the FSG homepage (=> MyTeam => Events => Deadlines) until July 22nd 2016 23:59 CEST.
