First Formula Student Electric event will be held in 2010

In 2010, the first ever Formula Student for electric race cars will take place. The Formula Student Electric (FS Electric) adds a discipline for electric drive train technology to the successful Formula Student Germany (FSG) contest.

The Formula Student Electric aims to prepare students comprehensively for industrial demands. In the view of growing fuel prices and scarcity of resources, young engineers need to be prepared for technological developments in order to be able to make further innovations. With the addition of electric drive trains their know-how will be completed.

In order to establish a common and consistent regulation for alternative drive trains, the Formula Student Germany aims to achieve a coordination with other international contests.

The Students‘ assignment will be to draft and build a competitive race car as for the Formula Student Germany. However, it will have to be fitted with an electric engine and energy source in the drive train.. This different approach carries new challenges the students will have to overcome.
