Daimler e-Drive Technology Award 2018: Apply now!

At Daimler, we are convinced: The future is electric. That is why we are setting the course for tomorrow today. We prove this with our brand for intelligent electric mobility: EQ – Electric Intelligence. However, there are still a number of challenges which prevents electric automobiles from being a familiar sight on the roads in the near future. That is why it’s your turn now. Take part in the “Daimler e-Drive Technology Award” challenge and tell us your ideas!

The Task

This year, we focus on the technology behind your e-Drive. What were your key performance indicators when deciding on the e-Drive concept? What innovative solutions did you develop and will they have the potential to be a real game changer for the performance of your vehicle?
 
Please focus on the following criteria:

• Innovation and technology behind engine, power electronics, battery, and performance control system that ensure the competitiveness of your vehicle.
• Concept of high voltage battery with respect to vehicle integration, choice of battery cells and idea behind cooling concept. What additional safety measures did you implement to avoid malfunction and to protect your driver and mechanics? How do you validate their proper functionality?
• Design of motors and attached gearbox with respect to power/ weight-ratio and efficiency in race condition.
• Testing and validation of your e-Drive system. What sensors and data acquisition do you use to help understanding and measuring the performance of your powertrain system? How do you validate your key performance indicators set during the concept phase?
• User interface: What features did you implement to help the driver interacting with the car and help the race engineers tweaking the performance of the car?

Ideally you can back up your presentation by physical proof of the actual value(s) achieved for one or more performance parameters.

Your Prize

The award for the best team is a 1,500 euro cheque. Second and third place will receive 1,000 and 500 euros in prize money respectively!

Your Application

The “Daimler e-Drive Technology Award” is open to all teams participating in Formula Student Electric. Your team can apply for the award by submitting an abstract (max. 3 pages), which elaborates on the main features of your e-drive packaging concept. The abstract should be a PDF and should not exceed 10MB.

The Judging

All nominated teams will be invited to present their e-Drive technology in the Special Award Judging Pit located in the FSG Forum. Each team has a 30-minute time slot for judging. Teams are advised to describe their e-drive technology by using suitable documentation and presentation media.
