Close to the Customer, Right in The Middle of the Project: welcome to Bosch Engineering GmbH

Category: Partners

Tackling a project. Discussing, coordinating, developing. Defying the time pressure together. And at the end of it all: proudly looking at the results. Anyone who has ever participated in Formula Student Germany (FSG) will be familiar with this process. At my place of employment, Bosch Engineering GmbH, it's a normal part of our day-to-day working world. My name is Roman Waletzke. I have been working for the engineering services provider for customized solutions since 2017. Together with my colleagues working in the field of automotive systems engineering at the Abstatt headquarters, I bring the individual competencies of software, hardware, and product development together with original equipment manufacturers and accompany the holistic development of the vehicle - at all levels and across all systems.

Adhere to processes, meet standards - and still act agilely and dynamically: At Bosch Engineering, that is possible, not least thanks to the very high proportion of project work. Not only in our teams, but throughout the company, everyone is on a first-name basis with everyone else. This makes communication easier. And faster. Our modern working conditions - we call them "inspiring working conditions" - are a concept for the contemporary working world. This means, among other things, that we do not sit at fixed places in the individual departments, but can work directly with colleagues in collaboration areas. This makes our exchanges more productive as well as more flexible.

From FSG to Bosch Engineering

I first sat at a Bosch Engineering desk as an intern just over five years ago. After that, I did a Master's thesis and then entered into the working world. How I got my foot in the door of Bosch Engineering? The Formula Student Germany. During my studies in mechatronics at Saarland University, I built up the electronics team there and was the team leader for four years. Bosch Engineering caught my eye as the sponsor of our team. In the end, what had me convinced was the varied project work, the corporate culture, and a focus on alternative powertrain technologies, such as electromobility. I applied and quickly received an acceptance letter - having FSG on my resume was most certainly to my advantage. After all, during my time there I had learned to think beyond the run-of-the-mill approaches to solutions - a skill that is also considered to be very important at Bosch Engineering.

Today, as a technical coordinator, I support our HR department in sponsoring. Our annual driving and application event for the Bosch-sponsored FS (Formula Student) teams at the Boxberg test center is also something we certainly wouldn't miss. During lunch breaks, I regularly exchange old anecdotes from our FS days with colleagues. Being a Formula Student creates a lasting bond. Even today.

This is Bosch Engineering

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH, Bosch Engineering GmbH has been a development partner for comprehensive engineering services since 1999. Around 3,000 associates from 55 countries from all over the world work at 14 locations (including Abstatt, Holzkirchen near Munich, Paris, and Yokohama). From brainstorming to maturity for volume production, the company supports its customers with individual and customized projects. The services on offer range from the development of systems, functions, and software for the powertrain as well as for safety, vehicle-dynamics and infotainment systems. What is more, they also cover their electric and electronic integration. Complete vehicle development across the individual vehicle systems is another focus. Various engine test benches and roller dynamometers are also available for complex measurements for the development of vehicle systems at the testing and inspection centers in Abstatt and Holzkirchen. "Our engineers are experienced in classic engineering projects, but are equally proficient in such current topics as alternative powertrain technologies, complete vehicle development, and simulation. As such, they often work in interdisciplinary teams to implement customer projects efficiently and with a focus on results," says Johannes-Jörg Rüger, head of executive management at Bosch Engineering.
