Over the past years, the CBOM tool has enabled 657 teams to structure their parts, assemblies, and systems for the Cost and Manufacturing competition. In total, the tool has accumulated 58,877 assemblies, 345,076 parts, and 880,603 subparts, providing a comprehensive overview of the diverse engineering solutions and cost models used by participating teams.
Now, in response to evolving competition regulations, the BOM Tool has been updated to meet the new requirements introduced by the CCBOM. This update goes beyond cost considerations by incorporating greenhouse gas emissions from raw material extraction, primary production, manufacturing, and transport. With this enhancement, Formula Student reinforces its commitment to sustainability and the ongoing transition toward a greener future.
As in previous years, teams can add parts for both the BOM System and the CCBOM System. A new column has been introduced to display calculated emission values in CO₂ equivalents. The tool automatically sums up both cost and emissions values for the entire system, which, for the 2025 competition, is the Steering System.
Additionally, as announced at the FSG Main Academy in November 2024, this update includes a major overhaul of systems and assemblies to create a more balanced distribution and reduce complexity. The focus has been placed on the most frequently used assemblies. Wherever possible, old assemblies have been mapped to the new system, but some assemblies still require manual reassignment by teams. These assemblies are highlighted in red and listed above the BOM, including links to their positions in the table. Teams have the flexibility to decide which assemblies to use and how to reallocate them, but they should provide a clear justification—for example, whether a Steering Actuator belongs in the Steering System or the Autonomous System.
Reallocation can be done by double-clicking on an assembly, and the IDs of assemblies and parts will be automatically updated if the system is changed.
