Advanced Concepts in CFD Workshop by SimScale
SimScale partners with Formula Student Germany to offer a free workshop on advanced CFD topics for Formula Student participants.
Designing aerodynamic elements for Formula Student race cars is not an easy task. Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics is now a prerequisite for any team wanting to move their way up the leaderboard at Hockenheim or other competitions.
SimScale and Formula Student Germany are joining forces to offer a workshop on Advanced Concepts in CFD for Formula Student. This workshop is for teams who are already using CFD in their development process and want to get their cars in peak performance shape for competition season.
The Advanced Concepts in CFD Workshop will consist of 2 one-hour webinar sessions on the topics of aerodynamic mapping and corning aerodynamics. Participants will learn how to leverage CFD to optimize the setup of their car and to get the most out of their existing car design on the race track. The webinars will be lead by an expert in the field of motorsport aerodynamics and will include a Q&A during which participants can ask questions.
Each session comes with an optional homework assignment to provide a hands-on component to the workshop. Submitting all homework assignments will qualify you for a Certificate of Completion for the workshop that can be added to a resume or LinkedIn profile.
The live webinar sessions will take place on Fridays at 17:00 CET, with the first session starting on March 16th. For those in a different time zone or who cannot make it to the live sessions, you can register here and the organizers will send the recording you via email.
Session 1 – Friday, March 16, 2018
AERODYNAMIC MAPPING AND ANALYSIS - Session 1 will introduce participants to aerodynamic mapping, a technique used in F1 to show how the wing elements and ride heights on a race car perform under different settings in terms of lift and drag.
Session 2 – Friday, March 23, 2018
CORNERING AERODYNAMICS - Race cars don’t just go in straight lines. Particularly in motorsport, the downforce generated through corners permits the vehicle to sustain higher speeds and increases performance. In Session 2, participants will learn about cornering aerodynamics and how to set up a cornering simulation in SimScale.
